THE GAME CHANGER’S

07/05/2015
The game changers

The game changers. You know the ones… the items that come along, you don’t really think too much about them, and then they completely blow you away and you can’t imagine living life without them. (You know, because I’ve totally got my priorities in tact and it’s totally acceptable for skincare/beauty products item to be able to sweep you off your feet) [insert sarcastic face/”I know, I’m a knob” emoji here] After being lucky enough to receive a couple of items that completely blew my mind and I now can’t imagine life without, it occurred to me that as the rest of my life appears on this blog- well, a good chunk of it anyway – said “game changing” products probably should too.

So here are said life changing products. Please prepare for lots of gushing, lots of shockingly bad descriptive words and lots of photos. Because you’ll know by now that girlfriend loves a photograph 😉

Jurlique herbal recovery antioxidant face oil

Jurlique herbal recovery antioxidant face oil

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Antioxidant Face Oil* – The lovely, lovely ladies from Jurlique was extremely kind and generous, and the face oil was just one of the items that I very luckily received. I was looking forward to trying it, being a fan of face oils, but I was genuinely blown away from first use. It smells incredible, it feels incredible.. but the thing that I love is that it made a complete difference to the hydration and texture of my skin after just one use. Having previously had oily skin, I am always a little hesitant when it comes to putting oil on my skin – ain’t nobody got time for chip fat inspired face – but my god do I enjoy slathering this all over my skin most nights. Over the last 3 weeks of using it, my skin feels more balanced, it’s much more hydrated and it just looks brighter and less dull. At £38 it is expensive, but you only need a couple of drops and there is so much product in this that I know it will last for yonks. (Yonks? Nope, no idea where that came from either) I will 100% repurchase this when it finally runs out.

Jurlique herbal recovery advanced eye serum
Jurlique herbal recovery advanced eye serum

Jurlique Herbal recovery Advanced eye serum* – When it comes to eye creams/serums… I love the idea of them, but I just haven’t used any that have rocked my world. – Yep, totally possible for an eye serum to rock your world – This eye serum from Jurlique however; totally, entirely, completely rocks my world. It’s incredibly light, in fact when you warm the serum between your fingers, it almost turns to a watery gel. But despite this, it’s so incredibly nourishing and just feels so fresh on the skin. I have hereditary dark circles – cheers Mum & Dad, so grateful you passed those on… – and this is the only thing that has genuinely made a difference. Not a huge difference, they’re still there in all their glory… but they are definitely lighter and less “angry” looking. Again, at £34 the serum is an investment, but who can put a price on protected, nourished and brighter under eyes? Well, not me. Give me all the tesco bags under eye circle help please!

Shu Umera S Curler
Shu Umera S Curler

Shu Umera S Curler – Prior to buying the S curler, lash curlers to me were little more than a modern day torture device. I’d used various ones before, and I just didn’t quite get it. I bought these on a total whim/after some serious longing for some Adriana Lima bambi lashes and quite frankly, I refuse to do my eye makeup without them now (#DivaBitch). Because they’re smaller than the original, it means that you can be more precise, you can get to every single lash without it pinching the skin – i.e pain worse than labour (totally haven’t ever been in labour, but I’m pretty positive on this one 😉 ) – and it also means it works for every eye shape. A total winner in my eyes.

Origins drink up intensive overnight maskOrigins drink up intensive overnight mask

Origins Drink up intensive overnight mask – The product that might need to get a restraining order on me because I quite literally obsess over this in pretty much every post. To find a full review, search Origins in my search bar and you’ll find millions – slight exaggeration – of posts where I’ve mentioned this but in short; this beauty, left overnight, leaves your skin so incredibly plump, healthy, nourished and glowing. Nuff said.*

* If this is my last post for a while it’s because I’ve been arrested for saying “nuff said” which is definitely a crime worthy of a life sentence!

Benefit rollerlash
Benefit rollerlash

Benefit Rollerlash mascaraThat totally over-marketed, over-promoted mascara that I kinda wanted to hate but actually, I really, really love. For me, no mascara can rival this in terms of curl, length and definition… whilst still adding a decent amount of volume too. It doesn’t smudge or run – hey panda eyes, how ya doing? – and is also easy to remove. A total all-rounder!

Flo atomizer
Jo malone wood sage and sea salt
Flo Atomiser & Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea salt – I’m not talking about this brand specifically, but just perfume atomiser’s in general I think are a total game changer. Your favourite perfume made portable. Perfect for travelling and top ups on the go and for spritzing on anyone that stinks on the tube. My current perfume of choice? The same as it has been since I got it 8months ago… Jo Malone Wood Sage and sea salt. [insert heart-eye’d emoji’s here]
Jurlique Love balm rose
Jurlique Love balm rose
Jurlique Love Balm (Rose)* – This balm pretty much does everything. Shitty, fucked up, Dodgy cuticles? Sorted. Dry patches? It’s got you covered. I like to use this under matte lipsticks too for an extra kick of hydration. It’s a pretty hard, waxy formula so you do need to warm it up with your fingers but the effects are totally worth it. I personally love the scent, but if you’re not a rose fan, they do also have the original version which is equally as fab. (I know this because I delight in “borrowing” some every time I see it in a beauty hall and piss off the counter assistants in the process.) A great, handy handbag/bedside table product.
Seche Vite Top coat
Seche Vite Top coat

Seche Vite Top coat – If you’ve been around the blogosphere – yep, still hate that word with every fibre of my being – for a while, you would have no doubt heard about Seche Vite’s top coat. In short, it is the shiniest, fastest drying top coat.. I’m talking, paint it on your nails, leave it for a minute, totally dry. It’s not going to smudge, it’s not going to dent, it just leaves it perfect. There were some whispers a long time ago of harmful chemicals and god knows what else in it but… well, surely it would’ve been taken off the market if it was really harmful, right? Plus, Yolo…

Real Techniques buffing brush
Real Techniques buffing brush
Last but not least, I couldn’t talk about products that “change the game” without mentioning the Real Techniques Buffing brush. For me, nothing applies foundation like this brush does. It really just does the best job for buffing – no shit, sherlock… – product into the skin and leaving it looking completely flawless (no matter how ropey your skin is).
So that brings my total rave/fan girl/“oh my god you need this product in your life, it’s amazing, go and check it out. Thanks. Bye…” post to an end.  I really hope you enjoyed it, I know there are a fair few products here – go hard or go home and all that – so if you could only try out one product from this line up? The Jurlique face is just 50 shades of dreamy, I highly recommend! 🙂
I would love to know what your products/tools/things you think are total game changers are? If you could only repurchase one product for the rest of your life, what would it be? I would love to hear your thoughts.
As always, thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!
xx

This is such a great idea for a post! Love your gushing cause it's made me want to go out and buy some of those products! I've got the Roller Lash and I agree, it was a product I didn't want to like but ended up loving.
The one product i'll always re-purchase is the real techniques buffing brush. After using that bad boy I can never go back haha. Holly x | http://thechroniclesofholly.com/

I think it's completely ok to think of beauty products as life changing :D! I am completely intrigued by the Jurlique Face Oil and it's definitely going on the wish list as I would imagine my skin would love it. I have the original Shu Uemura curler but I had no idea the version you have here ever existed, I must check it out in store asap x

    • Ellie Adams says:

Neither did I Alina, something I discovered from a window shop – which turnt out NOT to be a window shop 😉 – in selfridges. It's amazing, as is Jurlique in general! 🙂

  12. Rachel S. says:

Everyone loves the Seche Vite top coat, I have it and I really don't like it! What am I doing wrong? It chips so quickly on me, and it doesn't even come close to my beloved Sally Hansen fast drying top coat in the red bottle…
That Jurlique face oil though… I gotta have it!

    RachelShuchatMakeup

    • Ellie Adams says:

Oh no that's such a shame Rachel, I literally couldn't use anything else! Funnily enough I'm not a fan of the Sally Hansen version… proof that what works for one doesn't work for others right 🙂

  30. I'm 99% sure I've already commented on your blog before about how much I love eye serums and masks…but gah, I need to add these to my list of to-try products ASAP. I have a tendency to lean towards Korean products for my skincare routine, but I'm sure some of these are a lot more accessible!

Haha you're more than welcome to comment as much as you like Sara 😉 I've never tried any Korean products but I would love to. I highly recommend these though!
