BUYING A HOUSE + INTERIOR INSPIRATION

14/07/2015

One question that I ask myself regularly is, when will I feel like an adult? I mean, I pay my bills, I work for myself, I provide for myself, I’m engaged, half of my friends are married or have babies – slight exaggeration, but a fair few do – and yet I still feel ever so slightly like a teenager with no responsibility. One recent “happening” that has pushed me into the realms of “Oh f*ck lord, I think I might be an actual adult now” is buying a house.

So my other half and I have this house. We are still living in my family home until it’s totally ready – said other half thought it’d be a good idea to turn a very old fashioned (but livable) house into a complete building site – and probably will be for some time, but I’m excited for our next venture. But you know what I’m really excited for? Decorating this building site that looks like a bomb’s hit it blank canvas into my home.

I thought that nothing could compare to Pinterest when it comes to Home interior inspiration, however after discovering Homify, an incredible website full of home inspiration, articles and amazingly shot photographs, I think Pinterest could easily be given a run for it’s money. There is such a wide variety of home inspiration but a couple of areas I am particularly interested in are Bedroom, kitchen and living room inspiration.

Here are some of my favourite choices. A word of warning, prepare to drool/want to redecorate your entire home.

Is this not the dreamiest bathroom in existence? #MarbleGoals
Source for each photo: Homify
As you can see, I am a huge fan of minimal interiors. White, white and more white – do I need to say white one more time? White πŸ˜‰ – with some copper, green, marble and geometric accents are my idea of perfection, and these photo’s were just a small selection from Homify’s website so as you can imagine, I was in my element browsing their website. Our house has a lot of exposed brick – which I am beyond obsessed with – so this modern style of interior works really well as a contrast to the cosy brick.
Moving home is a very big deal – i.e I am slightly shitting a brick terrified – for me as not only will I be leaving my family home (which I’ve lived in my entire life, I was actually born in that house) and my family – I can’t go into this further as I will burst into tears – but I’ll also be leaving London. I’ll be living just on the outskirts – when we finally move in in 20 years time πŸ˜‰ – and I will be so ridiculously sad not to be in the heart of such an incredible city. So making my new house a home is not only important, but essential. With the help of Homify, Pinterest and let’s be real, Kate from Gh0st Parties… I’m pretty sure I can make that happen πŸ™‚
Where are your favourite places to go for home interiors inspiration? Have you checked out Homify before? I’d love to hear your thoughts πŸ™‚
As always, thanks so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!

I am still flat livin' so I don't do much in terms of decor. Seeing all the lovely big houses you've posted make me miss Canada a lot though, where something big and airy is at least attainable, unlike in the UK where one day I can maybe buy a small shed for Β£200K.

    Aisling | aisybee.

    • Ahh my family live in Canada and are always perplexed by how much London houses are. I had to move to the outskirts because of the Β£200k shed situation. So frustrating!

Exposed brick is my FAVOURITE thing, I swear. If I ever get my own place, there needs to be exposed brick…or else.

I decorated all of mine, top to toe last year in a couple of months…Since it's been complete I want to change it all again….I totally blame Pinterest! I hope it won't be in a building site for much longer and you can start creating a beautiful home! πŸ˜€

You're about 3 years younger than me (I think) but more of an adult than me already, haha! I love some of that deco, although all the white scares me a little. It would get dirty so easily.

Thanks for introducing me to this stunning site, I think you'd like how we've designed our house, it's minimalistic everywhere with dashes of statement colours in the furnishings/art/blooms but the kitchen is really bold and bright with a black and white tiled floor. I love Pinterest for home decor inspiration but will be checking out Homify especially as we are converting our garage into a studio hopefully in the next few months. Hope the house is going well, so exciting you are creating your dream home x

    • Ooh your home sounds amazing lovely, would love to see it. Pinterest is definitely great for inspiration isn't it but yes, check out Homify, I think you'll love it! Good luck with the garage conversion, sounds like the dream home πŸ™‚

That would actually be my dream, to be able to buy a house that is old & could do with some serious renovations. Even though it may be so much more effort at first than buying a house that is ready from the get go… the satisfaction of having a house to your exact liking will be amazing. Best of luck with it all, your inspirations are beautiful & I hope it turns out just the way you like it x
