THE IMPORTANCE OF TAKING TIME OUT

02/08/2017

Paris, Copenhagen, Paris, Rome, New York, Miami, Kissimmee, St Pete’s Clearwater, Paris, Crete, Cannes, Amsterdam, Belfast.

That is the amazing but absolutely ridiculous list of trips that I’ve been on this year. I look at that list and the complete and utter sop drip in me wants to have a little happy, grateful cry. My 16 year old self is like Yasssssss Queen (disclaimer; I was actually not a total tit at 16 but I’m sure I would’ve been impressed), the worker in me is like “Jesus christ, how are you still working and managing and actually a functioning human?” and just normal, boring Elle is like “Can I just have a cuppa and chill for a moment and take it all in. Please. Pretty please

I am so aware that with this post and one of my recent ones being all I’m a rubbish blogger and haven’t posted much because I’m a busy bee that it might seem like this blog is turning into an ode to my busy life/general moaning and I promise it isn’t. This post, which started on the plane home from a trip away with my favourite human Ally because plane journeys are the best time for me to switch off and just note down all the feels, is actually me just sitting back and thinking, fucking hell… how is this my life?

But also with that, realising that the best way to appreciate the rollercoaster, crazy, mental, breathtaking things in life is to take a step off of the neverending treadmill to sit back and actually enjoy them. So that’s what I am intending* to do from now.

*I say intending because everyone around me knows that I am absolutely useless at this!!

I think what it all boils down to is that I would like a day off. Just the one. One day off in 2 years would be an absolute bloody dream!

Top – River Island / Skirt – Missguided / Shoes – Next
So, for anyone else as useless as me when it comes to taking time out, here’s a few things that I’ve found to be really bloody useful lately;

– TV Series. Yes, yes I know, I am the queen of binging a million episodes after I finish working at silly o’clock to unwind, but it’s one of the only things that actually truly helps me to switch off and get into “I’m relaxing-ish” mode. Grey’s Anatomy, Suits, New Girl and yes I know it’s not a series but OMG LOVE ISLAND WAS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME. Ok, slight exaggeration but every night I would switch off at 10pm and watch it on +1 and then that was me done for the night.

– Walks. Lol when did I get so old. But my favourite thing is to jump off of the tube a stop or two early and have a wander instead. I whack my headphones in, play some tunes (and by tunes we all know I mean Take That/something equally horrendous but oh so catchy) and I just totally zone out. My fave!

– Reading. I used to read all the time when I was younger but ever since I started work, and especially now, I very rarely get the time. Plane time is usually editing time but when I just can’t handle working on a flight then that’s when the books come out and honestly, it is my idea of total bliss. And when I say reading, I don’t mean anything classic or classy, I’m talking cheesy as fuck, trashy chick lit that takes no brain power to digest. That’s always my favourite.

– Friends. I am so incredibly lucky to have Ally at the end of the phone (usually for 3 hours a night) and Jess in London/doing the same job as me so I get to see her numerous times a week, and I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them. Talking to the girls, laughing until I cry and creating abs – lol, a girl can dream – completely takes me away from all the stresses in life and just gives me so much perspective.
I mainly just always want you to know that no matter how much I may talk about being a rubbish blogger because I haven’t posted much – although can we appreciate 3 blog posts in a row? πŸ˜‰ – or that I’ve been so busy and I need a break… I adore what I do. I am genuinely the most grateful girl alive that I do a job that I have so much passion for and love so much and as much as it’s so incredible cliche and cheesy and semi cringe-tastic, I really just wouldn’t be able to do it without any of you that reads this blog. So, thank you.

But also, lol that you all think I’m about to massively contradict myself, no matter how much you love what you, never ever underestimate the importance of taking time out. Because your health and your wellbeing is so much more important. Plus you won’t be able to carry on smashing life being the girl boss you are without taking some time to look after yourself!

*Takes this as a cue to pour a glass of wine, run a bath, grab a book and chill

P.S I wrote that at 10pm last night, I’m not actually drinking wine at at 8am.

Well, not today anyway.

I would love to know what you do to chill out and take time out? Please chuck all of your suggestions my way because I could always do with some help!

As always, thanks so much for reading!

xx

Oh my goodness how do you manage without taking any time off?? I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you've been too busy, why shouldn't bloggers take time out? Also that list of trips is insane, I don't know how you've fit all those in without even taking anything else into account! I need to get away from screens to really relax, I've started just turning my computer off and leaving my phone on silent and reading a good book. Also yes to chick lit, have you ever read Lindsey Kelk's series? I really enjoyed her books! xxx

  4. These photos are beautiful Ellie! I've always wanted to visit lavender fields, won day I will! Most bloggers I follow have reduced their content recently, even I have! But you're always consistent on Instagram and I do believe that is the main platform these days, so I wouldn't worry too much love. xxx

Ahh so many trips, I'm not surprised you're a little bit tired! I think it's completely okay to be loving your career/life/all the travelling, but still want to relax and have a day or two to yourself every now and then too – definitely nothing to feel guilty about! I adore your blog and love it when there's a new post, but me (and I'm sure all your other readers too!) will definitely understand if you need a time out every now and then – it's only human.

Ps. LOVE these pictures! I'm going to the lavender fields in a few weeks and can't freaking wait! xx

  9. My new favourite way of chilling out is actually going up to bed at about 8ish (pm of course, I'm not THAT lazy), leaving the curtains and windows open and just chilling out … either just chatting with my other half, playing a random game on my phone or messaging friends … I find the natural decrease in sunlight really relax's me and it definitely my new favourite way to finish each day (if glamourous sunsets are unavailable).

Your list of destinations you've visited this year is so crazy Elle! I agree that it does get really overwhelming though and having a day off is a necessity! Walking with loud music really is the best way to zone. I love these photos too- that rose print short/skirt is too adorable.

I've always always thought that you work too hard, but I know just from doing this as a hobby how difficult it is to switch off from it all! I'd totally recommend starting small – if you could have one phone free night a week where you switch your phone/laptop off and just have a bath, watch some TV and have a pamper – I find that really helps me (although lol I definitely don't do it every week even though I need to!) Looking bloody gorgeous in these pics girl,

  16. Wow!
This is the most wonderful thing i have ever experience and i need to share this great testimony.
About how i get my ex husband after a breakup.
I never believed it, because i never heard nor learn anything about it before.
My name is Willie B. Garcia from US Florida
I'm so excited sharing this testimony here about how I got my ex husband back after a long time break up that almost led to a divorce all thanks to Dr Ahmed for his wonderful help. Am a woman who love and cherish my husband more than any other thing you can imagine on earth. My husband was so lovely and caring after 3 years of marriage he was seriously ill and the doctor confirm and said he has a kidney infection that he needed a kidney donor, that was how I start searching for who can help, doctor has given me a periodic hour that he will live just 24 hours left, that was how I ask the doctor if I can be of help to my husband that was how he carried out the text, the confirming was successful, I was now having this taught that since 3 years now we got married I have not be able to get pregnant, can I ever get pregnant again? That was the question I ask the doctor, he never answer his response was did you want to lost your husband? I immediately reply no I can't afford to lose him. After the operation my husband came back to live and was healthy I was also ok with the instruction given to me by the doctor, after 3 months my husband came home with another lady telling me, that is our new wife that will give us kids and take care for us, that was how I was confused and started crying all day, that was how my husband ran away with his new wife cleanable. Since then I was confuse don't know what to do that was how I went back to the doctor and tell him everything, he told me that, this is not just ordinary, it must be a spiritual problem that was how he gave me this Email: Ahmedutimate@gmail.com that I should tell he all my problem that he can help, that was how I contacted he and I do as instructed. After 22 hours and I have done what he ask me to do, my husband start searching for me and went back to the doctor, that was how he came back to me, he also told me not to worry that I will get pregnant, this month making it ten Months I contacted he, and am now having a baby of nine months and 2 weeks old all thanks to Dr Ahmed for his help that is why I have put it as a must for me to spread the news about Dr Ahmed is a place to resolve marriage/relationship problems?
