8 Make Up items I’m obsessed with

03/05/2021
EVERY DAY MAKEUP

It’s been a hell of a long time since I sat down and waxed lyrical about a lipstick/mascara/[insert your own choice of makeup item here] and I can’t lie lads, I’m absolutely buzzing about it. Granted, it might be the 3rd coffee by 10am – why, oh why, can I never judge how much coffee is too much coffee in a cafetiere? – that’s causing mild shakes but I’m gonna go with the notion that I’m buzzing off my (minimal, Double A) tits to talk about a highlighter that looks natural whilst giving you cheekbones visible from outer space.

My makeup journey has definitely evolved through the years. When I look back on photos of myself 3/4/5 years ago, I look different but initially I could never work out why. And now I realise that it’s mostly makeup. From not realising that liner all over when you’ve got shit, downward slanted eyelids is a bad idea. To finally, finally discovering lipliner – categorically the one item that’s changed my look – I feel at a good place with my makeup now where I genuinely feel the best I have.

Plus, *insert sirens here* I’ve finally figured out how to apply fake lashes and I finally have eyes. Dear eyeballs, you are welcome!

Eylure Lashes

It is nothing short of a first world miracle that I can now apply false lashes. It’s been a solid 12 years since I gave it a go, failed miserably and never tried again. I was that girl that even bought Mac lashes so the slightly intimidating assistants could apply them for me. However, false lashes latest fangirl has finally cracked it and after trying an array of them, I’ve decided that Eylure are just unbeaten. The 3/4 naturals are my absolute favourites for day to day use (I now wear lashes daily. I’m sorry but who on earth do I think I am?). They’re the perfect amount of fluttery, ‘natural’ volume and separation, without looking like you’re going on a bender that will probably leave them half way down your face anyway. Also a huge fan of the Fluttery Light 3/4 lashes which are so so perfect for anyone wanting a more glam lash but aren’t so experienced in applying them. I’m also bat shit crazy for the fox eye trend so I do prefer 3/4 or outer lashes more than the big bad boss bitch full lashes.

Charlotte Tilbury Lipliner in Supersize Me

I didn’t use lipliner until late 2019. I was born with lips to rival Jay Z’s and considering Kylie Jenner wasn’t around when I was growing up to make them cool, it’s not something I ever thought I’d want to exaggerate. Fast forward many years of blow job lip jibes and accusations of lip fillers – still completely natural, sorry trolls. lol. – and they’re now my favourite feature to accentuate. Charlotte Tilbury lipliners are just phenomenal, we all know Pillow Talk is a classic but it’s a little too light for me. Supersize me is the most stunning berry nude shade and looks perfect with all pink/nude colours. The formulation is glorious…glides on and lasts all day (Charlotte, you clever little thing, you) and there’s a shade for everyone. Highly recommend.

Mac Lipliner in Cork

For a die hard nude lip girl, I was terrified when I first used this. It’s a dark brown nude and I was completely convinced that I’d wasted my Mac gift card on a product I’d never use – 16 year old Elle would’ve been raging – however, when blended in properly to a nude lip (Mac Peachstock is my fave with this) it’s just gorgeous! It’s not “natural”, I’m not gonna bullshit you with that line. But if you’re a nude lip/liner girl, this combo is banging!

Maybelline lipstick in Beige Babe and Hourglass Lip gloss in Enchant

I find the perfect nude pink shade extremely difficult to find. I want light, but not so light that it looks like concealer lips. Pink, but not barbie pink. Cool but not bubblegum (if only I was as fussy when it came to men as I am with lipsticks, I wouldn’t have ended up in half of the disasters I have *face palm*). I randomly bought this shade on a whim and I adore it. It’s very Huda Beauty Prom night, but slightly cooler. It’s creamy, very pigmented, and lasts really well without causing that delightful scum around the corners of your lips (no you’re sexy). Big big fan, also looks beautiful with Hourglass Unreal lipstick in Enchant over the top. Which, while we’re here, is the best lip gloss of all time. Nourishing, pigmented, non sticky, lasts a million and one years.

Loreal Lipstick in nude

I don’t have anything like this lipstick in my collection. It’s sheeny, it has the slightest of shimmer but not one bit of a glitter. And it’s a gorgeous nude pink with a hint of plum. It’s my go-to “fuck me I look half dead and need to look more alive and awake and pulled together” makeup item, and always makes me feel good. Particularly beautiful paired with Charlotte Tilbury’s Supersize me lipliner.

Beauty Bay Fiery 2.0 42 colour palette

Once area of life I’m actually quite vanilla in (waheyyyy ladsladslads), is the eyeshadow department. I’m a shimmery neutral or matte neutral girl and god forbid I’m actually feeling a bit out there, you might even see a touch of pink. But generally speaking, basic af. Which is why Beauty Bay’s Fiery 2.0 42 colour palette is bloody perfect for me. You’ve got just about every possible shade of warm brown’s and neutral mattes and shimmers… but you’ve also got quite a few orangey/red shades which I’ve recently started experimenting with. Plus, an amazing dark brown and black matte shade which are *chef’s kiss*.

MUA Light Lustre Liquid highlighter in Wonder

Sweet baby jesus, this stuff is gold. It’s FIVE POUNDS. Blends absolutely beautifully into the skin, completely undetectable, and the colour is stunning. A rose gold shimmer which is almost like a highlighter and blush combined. I’m a big big fan, and it’s currently taken over the Charlotte Tilbury beauty wand’s for me at a fraction of the price. Bargain hunter pals, virtual high fives all round.

And there we have it, just some of the 7 billion things I’m slapping on my face these days. Each one I’ve used/worn to death so can truly vouch for how amazing they are. So if you’re feeling like you need a little makeup bag refresh, get your mitts on some of there. What makeup items are you loving right now?

Who knew that fake eyelashes would be a game changer when applied properly. Like you I’m not a fan of the spidery looking lashes. Your make up look is on point. X
